Personality: Gerd has shown himself to be a strange man with a personality concoction of stubbornness, apathy, and a easy-going attitude towards just about everything he encounters. Having a few drips of shyness into the mixture that gives him a general distaste for any form of crowded area or even more importantly having any sort of attention/praise directed towards him. He tends to become easily annoyed with people who do not understand something and often or not becomes volatile if he has to repeat himself; often or not putting it off as they are simply not worth the effort. Overall he has never been described or seen as a 'People-person' as he often or not has proven himself generally incapable of dealing with anthers emotional troubles especially those of children. In these situations he will normally give some flustered half-assed consoling attempt and if, or rather when, failed will resort to physically hitting the said person to make them come to their senses. Gerd is shown to rarely show grudges, and does not seem to mind if people wrong him even to the point of what others would call idiocy; he simply does not care about the ideas of right or wrong.

One of the few commandments that he holds himself to is the simple notion of 'Me-First' as he normally only becomes invested in something in which he himself gain something out of. If he sees no point to a fight he will simply leave or flee from to not deal with the hassle. Even when he becomes interested in something he tends to rarely even give half of his effort towards; he simply enjoys it when its easy. His half-assed attitude has attributed to more than a few people believing him to be a coward or simple weak though these can only be farther from the truth; at least partially.

Despite being a merchant by trade he has proven time and time again that he has little to no business sense. Often or not stocking his shelves with worthless materials and items that little to no one would ever want to procure. Though somehow he creates enough revenue in order to support both his poor habits and traveling expenses. Despite what people believe about his goods they are not worthless, rather they are merely that obscure that only a select few could even recognize. To those that do recognize them tend to pay a incredible amount to collect them.

As strange as it may seem for a man of his general attitude and tastes he has proven himself to be incredibly intelligent on many occasions, often or not creating plans years in advance that often or not come to full fruition and even accurately predicting world events far before even the smallest signs appear. Having a knack for understanding politics, local culture's, various languages, botany, and how many political systems function. Though probably most impressible is his ability to both read and understand the language written on poneglyph tablets. Even more strangely this intelligence is in direct conflict to the simple fact that he failed out of school. He also seems to have a unfortunate habit of mixing translations between languages, thinking that something means one thing when it is in fact the meaning from a completely separate language.

Gerd also seems to have a strange habit for picking up on small little details or even more so finding people who tend to know far too much about something he secretly inquiring about; these types of people normally being the better looking maids, servants, or even brothel women.

He also seems to be somewhat of a pilferer and scavenger often pocketing wares of other vendors or stores. When confronted about this he will often play it off as it is merely something that they will not miss even though it is often the opposite. Upon further inquiry he will simply call it out that if they were not good enough to hold onto it or catch him then they did not deserve it.

Character History
Background
Gerd was born into a small kingdom in the far reaches of the North Blue to a area known for its harsh winters and a people know for their black hair. Due to the harshness of the countries land Gerd never once met his parents, or at lest he has no memories of them as they died while he was young. Despite the harshness he was somehow able to make his way on the streets though various methods. As strange as it seemed children in the country, most notably the homeless ones, were uses as messengers and as apart of a spy network. From this Gerd was paid enough to live on by keeping a eye on whomever would pay.

When he was around 12 years of age a envoy of marines from one of the isles south of the kingdom employed him to trail a certain old man. While he was never told why he found himself strangely curious as to why marines would care what a old man waiting to die was doing. Though no matter what it was he was paid to do so. During his time following the old man he slowly learned that the geezer tended to talk to only a group of small old timers who all would slowly disappear into the a store and reappear hours later before dawn came. He, as he would every day, take his findings back to the marine and get his daily wages. With his curiosity effectively poked too no end he, while they were all gone during the day, broke his way into the store and eventually found a secret basement. Though more importantly what he found was a table and wall filled with pictures and notes all in a language he could not even comprehend. While he was never taught to read he picked up enough to at least understand what letters were supposed to look like. He did not report this to the marine.

During part of the day he would follow where the old man went, and any time that he could he would sneak back into that basement to try and understand what it was that he was seeing. Eventually he finally understood that what he was looking at were pictures of ancient poneglyph tablets, something punishable by death for having. While on one hand he knew that if he reported this to the marine he would be paid a incredible amount but on the other he found himself more curios as to what they said. One day while he was trying to read through the geezers notes he heard a voice behind him laughing at the boy. Panicked Gerd turned around only to see the old man he was supposed to be following, the old man walked up to him and revealed that he eventually realized that Gerd had been following him for weeks.

The old man then asked him if he could understand anything on the pictures. Gerd, still in panic mode, cautiously told him that he saw that the old men were translating the pictures language into another language, then a 2nd, 3rd, and even a 4th before into the one we knew today. The fact that Gerd, despite being a street-rat, was able to pick up that much from their scarce notes intrigued him. The old man offered Gerd a deal that if he continued to report to the marine that he and the rest of the old timers were doing nothing of interest he would allow Gerd to join them in their meetings. It did not take long for him to cautiously accept the proposal.

Eventually Gerd personally met the group of old-timers who had been studying the photographs slowly leaning that they were all former academics, veteran marines, retired pirates, and even one revolutionary from various parts of the world who all sought a simple life far from the reaches and politics of the world. Though possibly even more impactful was the simple fact that they were all avid academics who had both a insatiable curiosity towards the idea of the ancient poneglyph tablets. Of which were acquired at the cost of great personal expense and countless years traveling the world. While they all understood the personal ramifications for the curiosity they all felt that the knowledge far surpassed the risks at their advanced age.

Eventually the marine he was hired by closed his case as both he, and the children he had hired, had found nothing of interest on the old man. The old men even revealing to Gerd that they had known from the first time he broke into the store that he saw the pictures and that they were curios enough to allow him to report back to the marine to see what Gerd told him. More so that if he had told the marine the truth that they were all still able enough to kill both Gerd and the marine before word could of spread outside of the island.

For the next 5 years Gerd was essentially integrated into the group. During the day he would manage the antique store above and by night he would study and slowly help decipher the pictures. In the process he was also taught how to read and understand a large number of other languages so that he could better grasp the one they all wanted to understand.

At the age of 17, was the day that the groups retribution was finally brought upon them. While he was returning to the store after having a night at one of the cities local brothels he discovered that the store was on fire and that there were 3 well dressed men standing outside, all of them caring pistols. Knowing that this day might eventually come and the simple fact that the men were not looking for him (or at least not appearing too at the moment), believing him to have died in the fire, he knew that he had to flee from the island or risk the same fate as the old men.

Recalling one of the stories one of the old timers told him he was able to both remember about how he essentially got a retirement package from the revolutionaries and how he stayed in contact with them. Using this knowledge he was able to make contact with a nearby revolutionary and though him was able to escape off of the island and help cement the idea that he had died in the fire with the rest of the old-timers.

While he was grateful that the Revolutionary was able to help him escape form the island he was not for the idea of joining up with him. Instead, feeling some need to re-pay the debt, he offered to pass along any useful information he got a hold of. Reluctantly the revolutionary agreed and Gerd became one of their many hidden spies among the World Government countries.

For the next 5 years Gerd established himself as a traveling merchant, picking up the habit of dealing in antiquities from the geezers, to both allow him to make some sort of money and to give him access to many ports in the world. Over the years he sold, pilfered, passed juicy details, and even helped many revolutionaries escape countries. Somewhere along the lines he found himself with a bounty on his head after he was forced to flee from the bed chambers of a marine captains wife. Though to his advantage the marine's wife had a sort of fetish where she enjoyed wearing masks which eventually lead to his bounty poster never revealing his face but rather the mask he wore that strange night.

Devil Fruit Information
Devil Fruit Name: Poppu Poppu no Mi ('Pop Pop Fruit')
Devil Fruit Type: Paramecia
Devil Fruit Abilities: The Poppu Poppu no Mi is a paramecia type devil fruit which bestows upon the user the ability to both excrete a semi-transparent, sticky, rubbery, soap like liquid and 'pop' anything they touch with their hands into the liquid. The user is capable of utilizing this liquid in one of two ways with the first being to create bubbles of which they are capable of controlling both its size and movements. The second way being within its liquid form, its is capable of stretching over long distances and adhering to just about any form of surface. Once attached the user can use this in order to easily contract the liquid and pull persons or objects towards them (vice-versa) into melee to release a series of rebounding attacks.

While appearing as simple bubbles they have far more durability than appearances let on as the liquid they are formed of is rubbery they are capable of deforming and reforming back to their spherical shape by a mass margin. Though the greatest advantage of these bubbles is the users ability to allow and disallow objects or persons though their walls. Effectively meaning that they are a 1 way wall, allowing something to pass into them while preventing their exit.

When the user physically touches a object or person they are capable of 'popping' them as if they were a bubble themselves, transforming them into the same type of liquid they personally excrete which they can utilize as they wish. Unlike the liquid they personally excrete, liquid made of objects or persons retain their color and even some of their basic functions such as talking. This also means that liquid made from 'popping' is not permanent and will revert back to their original form after a period of time. That is assuming that all of the liquid that formed their self is present. If a person or object reforms without all of their mass being present they will reform normally and can even be re-attached with incredible ease with no ill effects; similiar to the Bara Bara no Mi.
